Karnataka drugs control dept detects 16 NSQ drugs, alerts cos and pharmacies

Karnataka drugs control department has seized 16 not of standard quality
drugs. The inspectors of the department conducted a massive surprise
inspection drive during May end. The drug samples were picked up at
random by the drug enforcement team from chemists. These were then sent
in for analysis to the drug test labs. The department already
has a robust infrastructure in place with three drug test labs: one each
at Bengaluru, Hubballi and Ballari. Moreover, the Bengaluru drug test
lab has renewed its NABL certification and the other two facilities are
working towards achieving the same accreditation to maintain high
quality standards in validation and generation of test reports.
Empowered with the required technical capabilities, its enforcement team
ensures continuous vigilance on the quality of drugs circulated in the
market, said Karnataka drugs controller Bhagoji T Khanapure. The
16 drugs which were found to be not of standard quality are Kozyma
which is a Kojic acid with vitamin E soap for medicated purposes
manufactured by Jain Soap, Gujarat. Albenic 500ml suspension for
veterinary purposes. The drug is manufactured by Vet India
Pharmaceuticals contains niclosamide and albendazole. pyridase which
contains nimesulide, paracetamol and serratiopepidase bolus manufactured
by Pure & Cure Healthcare at Uttarkhand. Carb-IF capsules contains
carbonyl iron, folic acid and zinc manufactured by Suraksha Pharma in
Uttarkhand. Aceclovliv hot gel manufactured by Theon Pharmaceuticals at
Solan. Pantoprazole sold under the brand Panzid-40 manufactured by
Shervotec Pharmaceuticals in Baddi. Gentarid for IM/IV use which is a
gentamycin injection manufactured by Emcross Pharmachem at Roorkee.
Lifobid -200 which are ofloxacin tablets manufactured by Lifecare
Formulations at Puducherry. Another set of drugs were Lowfen
tablet which contains loperanide hydrochloride and is manufactured by
Uniplus Biotech at Assoda near Merrut. Hydrogen peroxide topical
solution manufactured by Bhandari Labs in Ujjain. Cypril syrup which
contains cyproheptadine manufactured by Lex-Mark Pharmaceutical at
Mehsana district in Gujarat.
Pyredol Plus tablets manufactured
by Karuup Pharma at Ranga Reddy district in Telangana. Drotext –M
contains drotaverine HCL with mefenamic acid tablets manufactured by Zee
Labs in Paonta Sahib in Himachal Pradesh. Vertinorm containing
betahistine dihydrochloride tablets manufactured by Vance & Health
Pharmaceuticals at Haridwar district in Uttaranchal. Matace –S tablets
contains aceclofenac, paracetamol and serratiopepidase manufactured by
Symbiosis Pharmaceuticals in Himachal Pradesh and a skin care soap
manufactured by SRS Industries, Haridwar. The department has now
communicated to the companies on the not-of-standard quality. It has
also communicated to the pharmacy outlets across the state and the
hospitals to ensure these drugs are not stocked and prescribed. Public
has also been forwarned not to purchase these drugs over-the-counter.
