NPPA revises retail price of Cadila Pharma’s vitamin D3

The National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA) has revised the retail price of orally disintegrating strips of vitamin D3 manufactured by Zim Laboratories and marketed by Cadila Pharmaceuticals, after the latter approached the Authority with a review application.
According to the order, each of the orally disintegrating strips containing vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) IP 60000 IU strength will have a retail price of Rs. 30.39 per strip.
The manufacturer may add Goods and Services Tax (GST) only if they have paid actually or it is payable to the government on the retail price mentioned on the relevant space. The manufacturer shall issue a price list in Form-V from date of notification as per the relevant provisions in the DPCO, 2013.
The notification comes in line with the decision of the Authority’s 91st meeting held on July 29, 2021, where it considered the review application of Cadila Pharmaceuticals Ltd. The Authority, based on the application of Cadila Pharmaceuticals calculated the retail price of the said formulation and the draft working sheet was uploaded on NPPA website on April 7, 2021. The draft was to enable the company to make representations, if any, within 10 working days. But the company neither raised any objection nor submitted any document during the period to support its claim.
The ensued Authority meeting fixed the price at Rs. 20.16 per strip excluding GST, which was notified on April 30. Following this, the company approached the Department of Pharmaceuticals with a review application that erroneous data was used in the calculation of the retail price. SoP, in its letter dated June 30, 2021, requested NPPA to ‘complete their first hand re-verifications of basic data and calculations based there upon before any decision about reviewing the case.’
Based on the corrected data submitted by the AIOCD-AWACS PharmaTrac, the revised retail price of vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) 60000 IU orally disintegrating strip comes to Rs. 30.39 per strip excluding GST. Considering the corrected data, the Authority approved the revised price and notified on September 21.
