The Pharmaceuticals Export Promotion Council of India (Pharmexcil), with the support of the Union Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India, is organizing a high-profile business delegation to Zambia, Tanzania, and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo) from March 24 to April 01, 2025.
This initiative aims to strengthen India's pharmaceutical trade ties with African nations and further tap into the growing demand for high-quality, affordable generic medicines.
With India’s pharmaceutical exports reaching USD 27.84 billion in FY 2024, Africa remains a key market, accounting for an estimated USD 12 billion in generics. In FY 2023-24, Indian pharma exports to Africa stood at USD 3,950 million, contributing approximately 14.19% of India’s total pharma exports. Given the continent’s increasing demand for generic medicines and active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs), the delegation will serve as a critical engagement platform for Indian exporters.
The delegation's visit has been officially confirmed by Indian Missions in Zambia, Tanzania, and DR Congo. This will be followed with an inauguration ceremony, buyer-seller meet (BSM), meetings with trade associations, industry members, and Government Officials (Ministry of Health, FDA).
BSMs will be held in all three countries to facilitate networking opportunities and enhance business collaborations with local stakeholders, including regulatory authorities and prominent trade associations.
This will help engage directly with key stakeholders in Africa’s pharmaceutical sector, explore business opportunities in one of the fastest-growing pharmaceutical markets, strengthen regulatory understanding and build long-term business relationships.
Pharmexcil urges Indian pharmaceutical companies to take advantage of this opportunity to expand their global reach and reinforce their presence in Africa.
Under the Market Access Initiative (MAI) Scheme, companies with an export turnover of less than Rs. 50 crore in the previous year and at least one year of membership with Pharmexcil can avail financial assistance.
