A two-month into the most severe and coordinated sanctions by Western countries, Russia is facing shortage of ayurvedic products, veterinary medicines, active pharmaceutical ingredients, vaccines and feed additives.
Russian companies are seeking reliable Indian manufacturers and suppliers for these products.
The Pharmaceuticals Export Promotion Council of India (Pharmexcil) has recently received a communication from Indian Embassy, Moscow that several Russian companies related to ayurvedic products, veterinary medicines, active pharmaceutical ingredients, vaccines and feed additives are enquiring about the supplies from India. The enquiries came from Roslek Limited, Eurovetpharm LLC among others.
This came close on the heels of enquiries made by Russian pharma & medtech companies for supplies from India in the wake of sanctions imposed by the United States, European Union and their allies on Moscow for invading Ukraine. The sanctions prompted western drug manufacturers to exit the Russian market. Roslek Limited, a Russian based chain of chemist shops is seeking procurement of select ayurvedic products from India. The chain was established in 2004 having 65 outlets in Yakutia and Vladimir region of Russia. The list of intended products shared by the company includes ayurvedic medicine, Aroma oil, hair oil, ointment, food supplements, shampoo & soaps.
The Russian company intends to place their order in the next 15-20 days and further initiate the import process within 2-3 months. Interested member companies are requested to share their intent to supply/commercial offers directly to KK Goyal. Eurovetpharm LLC, a Russian based distributor and developer of veterinary drugs is represented in all regions of the nation. The company engaged in development and production of medicines for farm animals and poultry is planning to expand their supplier base and product line in the sector.
It is seeking collaborations with Indian manufacturers of vaccines, veterinary drugs, active pharmaceutical substances and feed additives for poultry, pigs and cattle for subsequent export to the Russian Federation. The company further intends to explore possibilities of contract manufacturing under their own brand name in collaboration with Indian players. Interested member companies are requested to share their intent to supply directly to Michael Ishkov.
Pharmexcil has asked member companies dealing in these products to explore the opportunities of mutually beneficial partnerships and increase their presence in the Russian market. India is one of the leading suppliers of Ayurveda products, veterinary medicines, active pharmaceutical ingredients, vaccines and feed additives. Indian companies can explore the opportunities of mutual collaborations and enhance their share in the Russian market, said Pharmexcil director general Uday Bhaskar. He said India is already a reliable supplier of competitively priced, quality generic drugs to Russia. Last fiscal year India exported US$ 590.80 million worth of pharmaceutical products to Russia which is the fourth largest exporting destination for Indian pharma. Russia accounts for half of the India’s pharma export to the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) market. Unlike the Western drugmakers, Indian companies are staying put in Russia despite sanctions imposed on Moscow.
A couple of months back, the Russian envoy to India, Denis Alipov indicated that the Indian drug firms might replace Western manufacturers exiting Russian markets amid sanctions.
