Facing flak from various sections of people over the shortage of vaccines and other emergency medicine like remdesivir and Covid-19 vaccine, the state government of Telangana conducted an emergency meeting with all lead pharma players in the state and assured the public that as many as 4 lakh doses of remdesivir injections will be supplied to all the government hospitals by next week to overcome the shortage of Covid medicine in the state.

After learning about the shortage and incidents of black marketing of antiviral medicines remdesivir by some unscrupulous elements in the state, Industries minister K Taraka Rama Rao conducted an emergency meeting with all the leaders of major pharmaceutical manufacturing companies producing the remdesivir medicine in the state and sought to know the reasons for shortage and how government can help them to overcome the situation.

Over this, the representatives of pharma companies like Cadila Healthcare, Syngene International, Dr. Reddy’s, Cipla, Mylan, Jubilant Generics and Hetero Pharma have assured that they have already scaled up the production of essential Covid-19 medicines and within next few days they would be able to supply adequate number of doses of remdesivir to the state government as required by it.

The Industries minister along with Principal Secretary Jayesh Ranjan assured the pharma companies that the government is always ready to provide all necessary support and will give priority to resolve all the issues pertaining to the pharma companies. However, the pharma leaders were urged to expedite the production of the essential Covid medicine to meet the ever growing demand in the state.

It is learnt that the all the remdesivir manufacturing pharma companies have assured to the state government that they will cooperate in the supply of the essential medicines to the state and by next one week the pharma firms have promised to supply 4 lakh doses of remdesivir medicine to meet the growing demand for the medicine in all the government hospitals in the state. “The outbreak of second wave of Covid-19 has completely put the healthcare sector under tremendous stress. However we are working round the clock to meet the shortage of medicines and vaccines. By next week the government will supply 4 lakh doses of emergency remdesivir injections to all the government hospitals and at the same time vaccine supply will also be enhanced to expedite the immunization drive in the state. We have also taken stringent measures to keep a tab on hoarders and black marketers of essential Covid medicines in the state,” informed IT minister K T Rama Rao.
