Mysore District Micro-, Small and Medium Enterprises Association
(MDMSMEA) is now gearing up to organise a food mela at Mysore’s Mysore
Scouts and Guides Grounds during the Dasara festivity between September
25 and October 2, 2014.
Although the Dasara festival concludes
on October 4, the food festival would culminate two days ahead because
of the Mysore Palace festival processions. The festivity is known to
attract tourists, and this led the MDMSMEA to form a Dasara food
committee.
They have called upon food processers and
manufacturers in and around Mysore to set up their own stalls and
present their products. In 2013, the food festival attracted over six
lakh people, and this year too, the committee expects between eight and
ten lakh visitors.
The committee is offering the space to the
food processing units and manufacturers to directly market their food
products. Each food processor will be provided with a 10x10ft or 10x20ft
stalls at the venue to set up their display.
“In fact, the
platform is an opportunity for the processors and manufacturers to
generate sales and look at increasing revenues in the long run following
bulk purchases,” stated Suresh Jain, president, Ahaaramela
sub-committee; general secretary and senior deputy director, MDMSMEA.
The
Mysore-based Central Food Technology Research Institute (CFTRI) and
Defence Food Research Laboratory (DFRL) would also showcase the product
innovations and provide information on the various support schemes and
subsidies available for establishment and expansion of food processing
and manufacturing industries by Indian government.
“The direct
sale from factory to consumers scheme would give ample first-hand
exposure on the demand for products and could provide a trend on the
future product developments,” Jain added.
The other members of
the committee are Dr. Rameshwarappa, executive president, Ahaaramela
sub-committee and senior deputy director, department of food, civil
supplies, government of Karnataka; Gunashekhar and Shaukath Alikhan,
vice-presidents, Dasara Ahaaramela sub-committee, Mysore.
According
to a circular from the Dasara Ahaara Mela sub-committee 2014, micro-,
small and medium enterprises in the food processing and manufacturing
industries sector are eligible for 50-80 per cent subsidy under
marketing development assistance, introduced by the ministry of food
processing industries (MoFPI) through its various departments.
