The 11th edition of Pharmac South 2026, South India’s premier pharmaceutical and nutraceutical trade exhibition and parallel conference, successfully showcased the region's expanding industrial footprint at the Chennai Trade Centre.
Held on June 4 and 5, the mega event was jointly organized by the Tamil Nadu State Board of the Indian Drug Manufacturers’ Association (IDMA) and the Mumbai-based Orbit Exhibitions Pvt. Ltd. The trade show brought together a comprehensive network of pharma manufacturers, raw material suppliers, industry leaders, machinery operators, laboratory instrument manufacturers, marketers, and regulatory officers from across the region to catalyze manufacturing excellence.
The massive turnouts on both days highlighted the expo's position as a major regional hub for finding new business opportunities and strengthening pharmaceutical distribution networks. According to the organizers, the exhibition experienced record-breaking momentum, drawing over 7,500 visitors across its two-day run. Industry professionals and trade delegates engaged in high-value networking and direct business interactions with exhibitors who travelled from all corners of the country.
In the opening session on the first day, Dr S V Veeramani, past national president of the IDMA, delivered a comprehensive presentation providing a strategic overview of the Indian pharmaceutical industry. Reflecting on the event's overall outcome, J. Jayaseelan, chairman of the TN IDMA, termed this year’s trade show an absolute success in every sense, noting that the parallel technical seminars yielded substantial benefits for the sector. He highlighted that the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI), Dr Rajiv Singh Raghuvanshi, dedicated significant time to interacting with delegates. The DCGI addressed critical quality compliance issues, clearing doubts regarding the revised Schedule M regulations. Jayaseelan strongly backed the DCGI’s stance that rigorous adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) eliminates the need for frequent regulatory inspections.
The event drew high praise from prominent pharmaceutical association leaders across South India who came to assess the trade show's impact. KV Rambabu, president of the Telangana Drugs Manufacturers Association, who visited the expo on the opening day, highly commended the organizers. He remarked that the exhibition standards were on par with large-scale expositions of national and international stature, adding that the scientific sessions held during the conferences were of exceptionally high quality and immensely beneficial for industry personnel.
Echoing similar enthusiasm, Purushothaman Namputhiri, president of the Kerala Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association, said that the expo is visibly progressing each year and will shortly reach the prestigious level of international platforms like CPhI. Highlighting the growing regional integration, he praised the concurrent scientific conferences and announced that there would be active, structured participation from Kerala manufacturing units in next year's event.
Further validation came from Dr. P. Jayasekhar, president of the Kerala Pharmaceutical Association (IPA branch), who attended the full two days of the program. He observed that the entire event was highly successful, emphasizing that the technical speeches delivered by the DCGI, the Pharmexcil DG, and the IPC leadership were profoundly informative and provided much-needed clarity on the future roadmap of Indian pharmacy standards.
The institutional framework was further strengthened by the presence of Dr. Darez Ahamed, the principal health secretary of Tamil Nadu, who extended full government support to the pharmaceutical industry. Delegates also had the unique opportunity to directly engage with Dr. Rajabhanu, director general of Pharmexcil, and Dr. V Kalaiselvan, secretary of the Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission (IPC). The regulatory dialogue was enriched by S. Gurubharathi, Joint Director of the Tamil Nadu Drug Control Department, alongside Dr. Manavalan and Dr. Rajashekhar, Deputy Drug Controllers of the CDSCO, drawing over 400 delegates from Tamil Nadu, Pondicherry, Karnataka, and Kerala.
In line with the tradition of celebrating industry excellence, the organizers partnered with Mumbai-based healthcare market research and consulting firm, Pronto Consult, to distribute the 'Brand Awards' during a dedicated session. A total of 29 pharmaceutical manufacturing firms were honoured for their exceptional brand performance and marketing excellence. Further, marking a new milestone from this year onwards, Pronto Consult introduced the 'Pharma Journalism Impact Award' to recognize outstanding and credible pharmaceutical reporting, with the inaugural award proudly presented to Pharmabiz.
