The Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Maharashtra, has issued a public advisory urging citizens to report any misleading or objectionable advertisements related to drugs and health products under the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954 and its corresponding Rules of 1955.
According to the official communication from the FDA Commissioner’s office, the department is actively working to safeguard the public from deceptive and exaggerated claims regarding the efficacy of various medicines and remedies. The notice specifically targets false advertisements found across newspapers, electronic media, and other public platforms, which may mislead consumers with unproven claims or promote unsafe products.
The FDA has reiterated that such promotions are strictly prohibited under the law, and any violations will be treated seriously. In an effort to enhance public awareness and action, the department has made it easier for citizens to lodge complaints. Individuals witnessing or affected by such misleading promotions can file a complaint by calling the Toll-Free Number 1800 222 365 or by sending an email to fda.dmr.complaints@gmail.com.
This move comes amid increasing concerns over the rise of unregulated advertisements promoting miracle cures, quick-fix supplements, and alternative therapies without scientific backing.
The advisory falls under the broader initiative of the FDA Maharashtra to ensure public safety and promote responsible advertising practices within the health and wellness industry. The department has appealed to both consumers and media houses to remain vigilant and support the effort to uphold legal and ethical standards in public health communication.
