The Kerala based Ayurveda Medicine Manufacturers Organisation of India (AMMOI) has got a chair in the administrative committee of the Ayush Export Promotion Council (Ayushexcil ) with the election of its general secretary Dr. D Ramanathan as one of the board of directors.
 
In the online election held last week, the general secretary of the AMMOI has won with a record majority. Out of the 220 member-voters, 140 members cast their votes in favour of AMMOI. He got the consideration as an MSME industry captain in the Ayurveda sector.

 
Dr. Ramanathan was an executive committee member of the erstwhile Central Council of Indian Medicine (CCIM) for 16 years from 1994 onwards. Before the formation of the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine (NCISM) in 2020, CCIM was the statutory body under the ministry of Ayush, responsible for regulating education and practice in the Indian system of medicines. He is the managing director of the Sitaram Ayurveda Pharmacy in Thrissur in Kerala.
 
The Ayush export council oversees exports of products of Ayurveda, Homoeopathy, Siddha, Sowa-Rigpa and Unani systems, and addresses trade issues pertaining to these sectors.
 
In January this year, Dr. Ramanathan won the prestigious Dhanwanthari Award instituted by the Kochin Devaswom Board in Kerala. Dhanwanthari Award is the premier award given by the Kochin Devaswam Board in the name of Dhanwanthari, the God of health and Ayurveda, every year. The award is designed for doctors who are performing well in the field of Ayurveda clinical practice and research.
 
He held several posts in various government-controlled councils and boards including Kerala State Medicinal Plant Board (KSMPB), Travancore-Kochin Medical Council and the Central Council of Indian Medicine. He is also the managing editor of Oushadham monthly published by AMMOI.

On several occasions, he was honoured with various awards and accolades considering his achievements and contributions in the field of Ayurveda. The Ministry of Ayush recognised him as a Guru (Teacher) in the hierarchy of ‘Guru Shishya Parampara.’
 
In 2023, he was awarded with the ‘Samagra Sambhavana Puraskar’ by the Ayurveda Medical Association of India (AMAI), the Association of Ayurveda Medical Practitioners in the country. Dr Ramanathan has always been an advocate for the promotion of Ayurveda, and was instrumental for several developments in the field of traditional medicines, especially Ayurveda, in Kerala.
 
The Ayurveda industry in Kerala has welcomed the election of Dr. Ramanathan to the Ayush export promotion council which facilitates capacity building of its members on export procedures, organize B to B meetings, international events, roadshows, seminars, workshops on the export of Ayush products, and to safeguard the scientific research in the field of Ayush healthcare.
