The number of hospitals for Ayurveda, Unani, Siddha, Yoga & Naturopathy, Homoeopathy and Sowa-Rigpa in the country has seen a growth of 20 per cent between 2011 and 2021, while the number of beds has seen a growth of 7.2 per cent during the period.

The number of Ayurveda, Unani, Siddha, Yoga, Naturopathy, Homeopathy and Sowa-Rigpa hospitals as on April, 2011 was 3,193, which went up 20 per cent to 3,844 by April, 2021, with the majority of the facilities catering Ayurveda system of treatment, according to the data from the Ministry of Ayush.

There are 3,844 Ayush hospitals in the country as on April 1, 2021 and maximum number of 2,982 hospitals is in Ayurveda, whereas, 262 Unani, 296 Siddha, 17 Yoga, 31 Naturopathy and 253 Homoeopathy hospitals are operating in various parts of the country.

There are 60,943 beds under Ayush hospitals in the country as on April 1, 2021 as against 56,842 beds capacity across the country on April 1, 2011. The bed capacity of Ayush hospitals as on April 1, 2020, was 60,653 for all the systems. There is a preponderance of Ayurveda hospitals, as nearly 78% hospitals and 74% beds pertain to this system exclusively. Unani, Siddha, Naturopathy and Homoeopathy account for the remaining nearly 22% of hospitals, said the Ministry.

Out of the total beds in 2021, a maximum number of 44,902 beds were reported in Ayurveda hospitals, while Unani has 3,947 beds, Siddha 2406 beds, Yoga 562 beds, Naturopathy 1,203 beds, Sowa-Rigpa 20 beds and Homoeopathy 7,903 beds capacity.

Barring 43 hospitals existing under the control of CGHS & Central government organizations, there are 3,801 hospitals with 58,655 beds in India as on April 1, 2021, which are under the jurisdiction of state governments & Union Territories. Out of these, the maximum number of hospitals are in the state of Uttar Pradesh (52.1%), followed by Uttarakhand (11.4%), Tamil Nadu (7.8%) and Karnataka (7.1%).

There are 36,848 Ayush dispensaries in India as on April 1, 2021 as compared to 29,951 dispensaries established as on April 1, 2020. Out of 36,848 Ayush dispensaries, 68.5% dispensaries pertain to Ayurveda system only, whereas, 4.7%, 2.5%, 0.6%, 0.2%, and 23.3% dispensaries belong to Unani, Siddha, Yoga, Naturopathy and Homoeopathy respectively.

Ayurveda dispensaries prevail in 35 states and Union Territories with a maximum of 29.8% dispensaries in Karnataka as on April 1, 2021. Homoeopathy dispensaries also exist in 35 states and Union Territories with a maximum of 22.4% dispensaries in West Bengal. Maximum of 19.5% of total Unani dispensaries exist in Bihar. In the case of Siddha, dispensaries exist in Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry with 92.8% dispensaries existing in Tamil Nadu only.

Yoga dispensaries are in Jharkhand, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, Andaman & Nicobar Islands and Puducherry only. Maximum of 91.5% Yoga dispensaries are in Tamil Nadu. Naturopathy dispensaries exist in 5 states/UTs with a maximum of 36.3% dispensaries existing in Telangana. Sowa-Rigpa dispensaries are in Arunachal Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Ladakh and West Bengal with a maximum of 70.6% dispensaries in Ladakh, added the Ministry.
