Pharmaceutical exporters have initiated preparations for the implementation of the India–United Kingdom (UK) Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA), which will come into force on July 15, 2026.

As part of the preparatory action, the Pharmaceuticals Export Promotion Council of India (Pharmexcil) has urged pharmaceutical exporters to submit details of potential export consignments that are expected to benefit under the agreement so they can be flagged off on the day the agreement takes effect.

UK is India’s largest pharmaceutical export destination in Europe. The India–UK CETA marks a major step in enhancing bilateral trade and economic cooperation between India and the UK. The agreement is expected to improve market access for Indian pharmaceutical products and create new opportunities for exporters in the UK market.

To ensure smooth implementation of the agreement, pharmaceutical exporters have to furnish information on export consignments that are likely to be shipped under the CETA framework. The information is being collected through an online format to facilitate coordinated preparations for the launch of the agreement.

Exporters have been asked to provide details including the product name, export quantity, export value, name of the exporter, port, airport, inland container depot or place of export, district, state, and the name of the dignitary or official, if any, proposed to flag off the consignment on the agreement's entry into force.

A template titled "List of Commodities for Flagging Off on Entry into Force of India–UK CETA (15th July 2026)" has been circulated to help exporters submit the required information in a uniform manner.

Pharmexcil director general (DG) Raja Bhanu said, "To facilitate a smooth implementation of the agreement and showcase the pharmaceutical sector's readiness, all pharmaceutical exporters are requested to submit the required information at the earliest through the online form."

DG Pharmexcil further stated, "Timely response will assist in highlighting India's pharmaceutical export potential and ensure that the sector is well positioned to leverage the market access opportunities created under the India–UK CETA."

The initiative is expected to demonstrate the preparedness of India's pharmaceutical industry while showcasing export-ready consignments that will benefit from the preferential trade framework from the very first day of the agreement's implementation.
