With Patanjali reiterating its stand on the licensing procedure for
noodles, FSSAI has issued a notice asking it to explain the sale of its
product without approval. The company, however, denied having received
any notice from the apex food regulator as yet.
Ever since the
launch of Patanjali Atta Noodles, FSSAI (Food Safety and Standards
Authority of India) took note of the development and asked its
enforcement department to look into the matter for violation of any
norms. FSSAI raised the issue of Product Approval, while questioning the
launch.
Interestingly, though the Supreme Court had earlier set
aside the Product Approval advisory and currently there was no process
in place, yet FSSAI was asking for Product Approval. However, officials
privy with the development felt that Patanjali should have waited till a
statutory procedure was put in place.
Meanwhile, Ravindra K
Chaudhary, vice-president, operations and project, Patanjali Ayurved
Ltd, clarified, “We have shown all the documents to the local Food
Safety Officer and it has been noted that Patanjali has all the
certificates for sale-manufacturing of noodles. FSSAI has categorised
the licence and noodles come under same category of pasta and noodles.
Whatever notice is issued, we will reply.”
