The online portal for drug manufacturing license system for ayurvedic medicines (Ayudmla) launched by Gujarat Food and Drugs Control Administration (FDA) around 10 months back has received a thumping response from Ayurveda companies. Almost all Ayurveda units in the state have registered with the online portal.
There are around 820 Ayurveda companies in Gujarat. All of them have registered with Ayudmla. With this, the Gujarat FDA have digital record of the number of Ayurveda companies and their plants in the state, said FDA commissioner Dr HG Koshiya.
However, the online portal is yet to capture product licenses of Ayurveda companies. The FDA officials are verifying product licences issued to Ayurveda companies as well as their legacy data. Once the verification gets done, the product licenses and legacy data of Ayurveda companies will get digitised, stated Dr Koshiya.
Currently, fresh application, renewal of license, and new product permissions are being processed through Ayudmla. The online drug licensing portal has facilitated ease of doing business in the state. It is in line with the Prime Minister’s Digital India initiative, he informed.
“Earlier there was a physical process for the approvals and company authorised persons used to come to us from across the state for this. Paperless approval process was much needed. I have taken initiative in this regard,” he stated.
So far, we have conducted three seminars in Surat, Ahmedabad, Rajkot to create awareness about Ayudmla among Ayurveda manufacturers, he added.
Gujarat became the first state to launch such an initiative towards online licensing, product approvals, and digitisation of records. The online portal was launched by the state FDA during "GAAMA Udan” held by Gujarat Ayurved Aushadh Manufacturers Association (GAAMA) in Ahmedabad on September 18, 2021.
The state has been the largest exporter of Ayush and herbal products, at USD 246.78 million during 2020-21, which was a growth of 32.3 per cent compared to the USD 189.59 million exports it registered in the previous year.
