The chief minister of Haryana, Nayab Singh Saini, has assured the pharmaceutical manufacturers association in the state (HPMA) that the state government will fully support the industry by realizing the proposed Pharma Park at Karnal Industrial Area with first priority.

The information was shared with Pharmabiz by the president of HPMA, Ratan Lal Sharma, after he gave a memorandum to the chief minister raising the industry’s demand when he visited Kurukshetra to attend a function.

Sharma further said Karnal Pharma Park was one of the priorities of the ruling party’s election manifesto in the last assembly election, besides there was a commitment from the Union minister of chemicals and fertilizers that a pharma park would be set up in Karnal Industrial Area. The Union minister made the commitment while speaking at a function in Sonipat.

Speaking to Pharmabiz, RL Sharma said there are around 150 pharma MSMEs operating in and around Karnal now, and for the development of the pharma sector in the area, one Common Facility Centre (CFC) has been set up, in which testing of raw materials, intermediates and finished products is done. Some manufacturers are exporting medicines from Karnal even today. The total turnover of the pharma sector including formulation and allied sectors at the Karnal industrial area comes around Rs. 1,000 crore.

He apprised the chief minister that the Karnal pharma sector has the potential to grow up to a turnover of Rs. 2,000 crore per annum as all the units there want to expand their facilities and businesses. The sector gives employment to 10,000 people with different calibers. According to him, this figure will be increased to 25,000 once the pharma park comes up. But the industry needs a bigger space in well-organised industrial area. HPMA has identified 100 acres of land at the area, and a special purpose vehicle (SPV), Karnal Pharma Park Limited, has been formed.

Sharma pointed out that the Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (HSIIDC) will develop the infrastructure facilities at the park site like roads, sewage treatment plant (STP), water treatment plant (WTP), effluent treatment plant (ETP), electricity, centralized pollution treatment plant etc. He wanted the chief minister an investment subsidy loan to the industries under the state government’s pharma policy. According to him, various supporting subsidies from the government and other agencies are essential for the pharma manufacturers to establish their units at the pharma park.

Highlighting many advantages of the Pharma Park at Karnal, the HPMA president said since a lot of pharma and allied industries are centred in and around Karnal, raw materials and other services are available at reasonable rates always. Besides, there is one CFC in operation now, so the industrial units do not have to spend more money in laboratories and other common facilities. As the government is supporting ease of doing business, all the regular approvals can be obtained without any hurdle.
