High level Tanzania delegation to discuss business collaborations with pharma industry in Hyderabad on July 29

Health Minister of the United Republic of Tanzania Ummy Ally Mwalimu will lead a high level delegation to discuss business collaborations with Indian pharma industry in Hyderabad on July 29.
Africa is one of the major importers of Indian generic medicines with an approximately USD 12 billion generic market. Africa offers great potential for Indian pharmaceutical products and Tanzania is among the top 5 importing destinations with exports of USD 264.66 million during FY 22-23 contributing about 1.04 % of the total pharma exports from India.
The Tanzania Health Minister is leading a delegation of key officials from the departments of health, pharmaceuticals, regulatory and external affairs which is visiting India between July 24 and July 31. The delegation will include key officials like the Director General of Tanzania Medicines and Medical Devices Authority (TMDA) and also the Director General of the Medical Store Department (MSD).
MSD is the largest importer of which 80% of medicines, 90% of medical supplies and 100% laboratory supplies are imported from different countries across the world directly from the manufacturers. MSD is looking at procuring some of the pharmaceutical products which includes medicines, surgicals and medical devices from India which will be discussed during this interaction.
The delegation will also comprise of the following officials - Prof. Paschal Ruggajo- director of Curative, Ministry of Health, Tanzania, Daudi Msasi- chief pharmacist, Government of Tanzania, Adam Fimbo, director general, Tanzania Medicines and Medical Devices Authority (TMDA), Mavere Tukai, director general, Medical Store Department (MSD), Martin Elias- private secretary for the Minister of Health, Tanzania, Warioba N. Nyakuwa, protocol officer, Ministry of Health, Tanzania, Silvanus S. Ilomo, head of Information and Communications Technology (ICT), Ministry of Health, Tanzania, Germanus Morris Nkoronko, Indian desk officer, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Tanzania and Dr. Kheri O. Goloka, Minister Counsellor (Health), Tanzania High Commission, New Delhi.
“Looking into the trade potential with Africa and business prospects with Tanzania, the Pharmaceuticals Export Promotion Council of India (Pharmexcil) is organising a round table discussion with the Tanzanian delegation on July 29, 2023 in Hyderabad. The round table will have presentations from TMDA on the regulatory practices and MSD on the procurement of pharmaceuticals. Indian companies are requested to register their participation and take advantage of this opportunity,” informed Uday Bhaskar, director general, Pharmexcil.
