The minister for municipal administration in Tamil Nadu, K N Nehru, will dedicate one Hospital-cum-Panchakarma Centre of the Indian Medical Practitioners Co-Operative Pharmacy and Stores Ltd (Impcops) to the people of Trichy on the 30th of this month. This is the 8th Hospital-cum-Panchakarma Centre of the Impcops, which will be established at the existing sale depot complex in the city. M Anbazhagan, Mayor of Trichy Corporation will be the chief guest and the district collector M Pradeep Kumar will be the guest of honour at the opening function of the hospital. Siddha district medical officer Dr S Kamaraj will also be present on the occasion. The Trichy hospital is a part of Impcops’ expansion plan in south Indian states. Recently, the society opened its seventh hospital at Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala. Talking to Pharmabiz, Dr R Kannan, president of the multi-state co-operative society, said currently it owns 28 sale depots and seven hospitals which are located in different places in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Pondicherry, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Besides, the society has two drug manufacturing units, one is attached with the head office at Adyar in Chennai and another one is at Tadepalli in Guntur district in Andhra Pradesh. He said in the panchakarma centres of Impcops, both siddha and Ayurveda panchakarma therapies are being performed. The society manufactures nearly 1,200 medicines of Ayurveda, Siddha and Unani systems. In addition to this, 40 kinds of Siddha veterinary drugs are also manufactured. All the medicines are marketed across the country and they are available in all the depots and Ayush medical shops all over India. “Our sales depots are located in different parts of south India. We have two sales depots in Kerala, one in Karnataka, five in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh and 20 in Tamil Nadu. In Chennai alone, Impcops operates three hospitals, one at the head office complex at Adyar, one at IIT Chennai campus and one at Thoraipakkam. In addition to these, our hospitals are working in Pondicherry, Coimbatore, Vijayawada and Thiruvananthapuram. Since domestic and international tourists are visiting major cities in AP, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Kerala, the number of depots will be increased further and they will be attached with Ayurveda clinics and massage centres", he said. According to Dr. Kannan, the society hopes that the healthcare establishments and production facilities of Impcops will boost marketing of products of all classical medicines and thereby to increase its turnover. He said, in his second term as president, he initiated to establish one manufacturing unit in Andhra Pradesh and opened two hospitals out of Tamil Nadu. Further, he plans to attach Ayurveda treatment centres and panchakarma therapies with all the existing sale depots in the south Indian states. This will also generate more employment opportunities for the graduates of Ayurveda and Siddha graduates. Next major expansion plan is to construct one Guest-House facility at the head office at Adyar. Members of the society coming from different states are now staying in hotels which creates financial burden for the society.
