Indian pharma presents an appealing proposition. A strong talent pool, extensive technological and manufacturing competence, regulatory maturity, and a mature chemical industry, stated Sameer Hiremath, vice chairman & MD, Hikal Limited.

Following the epidemic and in the midst of geopolitical upheavals, global companies are reevaluating their sourcing strategy. India is developing as a formidable competitor for global manufacturing requirements, particularly in pharmaceuticals, crop protection, and specialty chemicals. The 'China Plus One' approach is resulting in realignment of global supply chains, with India at the centre of the shift, he added.

Clients are actively reviewing their sourcing arrangements to ensure business continuity and cost savings. India presents an appealing proposition: a strong talent pool, extensive technological and manufacturing competence, regulatory maturity, and a mature chemical industry. More importantly, Indian enterprises have showed resilience and adaptability in recent years, which has helped develop trust among global partners, Hiremath told Pharmabiz in an email.

Enquiries and deeper engagements from international clients seeking to diversify and de-risk their businesses are on the rise at Hikal. They are now interested in value-added services like process innovation, sustainable manufacturing, and long-term strategic collaborations rather than merely outsourcing low-end production. This change demonstrates India's increasing acceptance as a location for manufacturing driven by technology, he noted.

The country is positioned to play a key role in the robustness of the global supply chain. It is now evident from the last several years that supply chain success depends on agility, transparency, and geographic diversity.  India is taking the lead because to its expanding production capacity and enhancing business-friendly environment. This shift is made possible by the Indian government's emphasis on infrastructure, legislative changes like the PLI (production linked incentive) programmes, and digitisation initiatives, stated Hiremath.

Furthermore, India's expanding green chemistry and sustainable manufacturing methods are now in the limelight due to the development of ESG-conscious consumers.  To keep up with this trend, businesses like Hikal are making investments in digital technology, environmentally friendly processes, and capacity growth, he said.

Also India is a key partner in innovation and dependability in the chemical and life sciences industry, in addition to being a supplier. One significant advantage for our nation is its capacity to grow quickly without sacrificing quality or compliance. Here at Hikal, we understand that being resilient means being able to predict changes and be prepared to change course. We are well-positioned to assist international clients in creating robust supply chains from start to finish due to our extensive capabilities from research and development to commercial manufacture. Moreover, our company is a reliable partner for international clients looking for quality, scalability, and long-term collaboration. We are expanding production capacity, innovation-led R&D, and sustainability-focused operations, said Hiremath.
