The Karnataka Drugs and Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association (KDPMA) has given thrust to hone skills, and knowledge sharing on best practices to the pharma industry personnel in the state. This is in a bid to bolster growth prospects for companies in Karnataka in the domestic and global markets. .

In this regard a slew of knowledge series are planned. These are envisaged to be a springboard for employees to garner know-how without even having to leave their workplaces as the sessions are currently via virtual mode.

According to Harish K Jain, president, KDPMA and director Embiotic Labs, learning and mastering a skill involves far more than just a theoretical understanding of facts and concepts. When technologies are transforming at breakneck speed, only upskilling and continuous learning will provide an understanding of the innovation that can be implemented. There is also a need to know the required regulations supporting the use of technology for a novel process, be it manufacture or research or supply chain logistics. In fact, we see the knowledge series as a platform to remain relevant in the current times.

The programme will be held once a month to focus on areas of recent developments in regulations, and new marketing initiatives to boost sales among others. This is because these are areas that pharma personnel need to stay informed in the fast changing times especially during this pandemic phase where technology has led companies to speed up their digital capabilities, he added.  

In the first event, we had VL Humbar, former deputy drugs controller, Karnataka Drugs Control Department address the industry on ‘Pathways to test license applications. The process of identifying panel of speakers is already underway as the industry will need inspirational and interactive speakers to address their queries. Every session which spans 60 minutes or more includes a Q&A session too, Jain said.

The Association also sees that the knowledge series will increases the number of opportunities available to the employees for internal promotion ensuring the qualifications and skills remain aligned with constantly changing requirements.

In an age where time is speed, there is a need to master new skills more quickly and effectively. It will make the pharma industry personnel flexible to shift focus quickly and to take advantage of unanticipated situations. This is a quality that is particularly useful in a manual and technologically complex working environment, said Jain.

Further, KDPMA has also formed dedicated committees for regulatory, sales-marketing, supply chain, production and research. This will be led by specialization specific experts who could be a source of guidance for the sector, he stated.
