Ministry of Ayush targets infra development of 280 Ayush facilities in 2024-25

The Ministry of Ayush is targeting to upgrade or establish new infrastructure facilities of 280 Ayush facilities and supply Ayush medicines to 30,050 facilities during the current fiscal year, under the National Ayush Mission (NAM).
The Union Budget 2024-25 has earmarked a financial outlay of Rs. 1,200 crore for the Central Sponsored Scheme of NAM.
According to the Outcome Budget 2024-25 from the Ministry of Finance, which elaborates the output and outcome framework for major central sector and centrally sponsored schemes of various Ministries for the fiscal year, the strengthened Ayush Health System with upgradation and establishment of Ayush facilities is expected to help around 20 crore beneficiaries avail Ayush services at these facilities.
The number of patients getting improvement in quality of life with respect to pain, range of movement etc., through Ayush intervention under the National Programme for Prevention and Management of Osteoarthritis and other musculoskeletal disorders during the fiscal year is estimated to be 47,000. The number of beneficiaries enrolled under this programme will be 1,25,000 during the fiscal.
It is also planning to screen or enroll around five lakh people non communicable disease (NCDs) under integration of Ayush with National Programme for Prevention and Control of Cancer, Diabetes, Cardio-vascular Diseases and Stroke (NPCDCS).
Under this programme, it is expecting 50,000 NCD cases to benefit through Ayush life style advices, Yoga, meditation and Ayush medicines.
The number of schools covered under Ayurvidya, the programme for healthy lifestyle through Ayush for school children will be 18,000 and it is expected to sensitise 12 lakh students during the fiscal.
Various programmes, including Supraja (Ayush maternal and neo-natal intervention), Vayo Mitra (Ayush geriatric healthcare services and Ayush Mobile Medical Unit), Karunya (Ayush palliative services), and national programme on Ayush for Morbidity Management and Disability Prevention (MMDP) of Lymphatic Filariasis (Lymphoedema) are expected to benefit 65,000 patients during 2024-25. These programmes are expected to see enrolment of 1,27,000 during the year.
The Ministry said that implementation of NAM scheme is being done through State and Union Territory Governments and accordingly, projected targets of output and outcome is based on their previous years trends of received proposals through State Annual Action Plans (SAAPs) as well as performance of implementation of different approved activities/programmes.
The budget estimate for the Mission for the fiscal year is the same as it was allocated for the previous fiscal year of 2023-24, and more than double compared to the Rs. 549.15 crore expenditure reported for the fiscal year 2022-23. However, the year 2023-24 has seen a decline in the revised budget, at Rs. 815 crore, as against the Budget Estimate of Rs. 1,200 crore.
The Budget Estimate for the fiscal year 2024-25 for the Ministry has seen a meagre 1.78 per cent growth at Rs. 3,712.49 crore as compared to Rs. 3,647.50 crore Budget Estimate during the fiscal year 2023-24. However, the Revised Estimate for the fiscal 2023-24 was down by 18 per cent to Rs. 3,000 crore, according to the Demand for Grants from the Ministry of Ayush.
