The government of Madhya Pradesh will soon set up a herbal park in Indore district on 80 acres of land to promote the herbal drug manufacturing industry in the state. The work for the cluster project has already been started.
A joint initiative between the state government and the industry, Dhanvantri Herbal Park, will be set up at the village Mohana near Indore. It will be the first dedicated industrial park for herbal medicines and extracts in Madhya Pradesh and the largest of its kind in Asia, according to industry sources.
It is estimated that the herbal park will house one hundred small and medium scale herbal medicines and extract manufacturing units. Land for the park was already identified and work for infrastructure development has been started. The government is likely to allot plots to the investors by the end of January 2021, says Ajay Singh Dassundi, senior vice president of the Ayush Nirmata Sangh of MP (ANS-MP), a registered association of MP herbal manufacturers and distributors. Madhya Pradesh Audyogik Kendra Vikas Nigam Ltd (MPAKVN) is the designated agency to develop the herbal industry cluster which will have various facilities like raw material centre, full-fledged quality control laboratory, R&D facility for herbal products of Ayurveda, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy, toxicity study centre, process validation laboratory, raw material lab and warehouse, common facility centre for production and packaging. “Since alternative medicines are taking up a significant space in the world health market, we hope that this herbal park in Indore can generate many benefits for the traditional herbal medicine manufacturing industry from cost savings to research collaboration. It can employ thousands of skilled and unskilled workers and market products to all the states around Madhya Pradesh. The project will also incentivize local farmers to engage in medicinal plant cultivation with the assistance of state medicinal plant board (SMPB),” Dassundi said.
He said the state of Madhya Pradesh is famous for medicinal plants and herbs as raw materials for traditional medicines and there is no shortage for it as plenty of farmers are engaged in non-conventional agriculture. Ayush manufacturers of other states are procuring raw materials from MP on reasonable price. Since the state being in the central part of the country, there is no logistic problem for marketing the products to other states. Besides, the climatic condition is also good for the herbal industry. From the side of the government, the MPAKVN will provide all state-of-the-art facilities for water supply, electricity, centralized ETP, WiFi connection, common facility centre etc. For construction of building and erection of machineries, a subsidy of 40% will be given by the government.
Rajesh Shetiya is the president of the Ayush Nirmata Sangh which has tied-up with MPAKVN for realizing the cluster project. Ashish Dubey is the secretary and Rishab Patani is the treasurer, informed Ajay Singh, the senior vice-president.
