Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences in Andhra Pradesh is planning to
bring in new reforms in the conduct of Medical PG entrance exam in
Andhra Pradesh and Telangana states from the year 2015.
As part
of this, the university authorities are planning to conduct online
entrance test for admission to post graduate courses in medicine
(Medical PG) in both states of AP and TS from 2015.
The main aim
of this reform in the medical admission test is to do away with
loopholes in traditional method of pen and paper exam which is giving
scope for the fraudsters to leak exam papers and mass copying, which has
been witnessed during the past few years that is causing lot of
problems in the Medical PG admissions in the state.
In view of
this, the Andhra Pradesh Medical and Health department has recently
given permission to the university’s proposal to conduct online test for
Post Graduate entrance test in both the states. “Learning from our
experiences last year, we don’t take any chances this year. The
government has given permission to conduct online test. With this we can
put a check on the loopholes and bring in more transparency and
accountability in the conduct of admission test,” said an official at
the NTR Health University.
As there are limited Medical PG seats
in AP and TS, the demand for Post graduate medicine course is
increasing in both the states. There are about 2200 PG medical seats for
which 18000 MBBS students from AP and TS are competing for these
limited seats. Taking this as an advantage, many fraudsters and broker
gangs including some private medical colleges are misleading the
students and siphoning lakhs of rupees from the students and indulging
in various illegal methods.
Last year the Medical PG entrance
exam in the state witnessed a big controversy due to leakage of exam
paper. The issue came to light when a few failed MBBS students got top
ranks in the Medical PG test. Upon investigation by the crime
investigation department (CID), the nexus between various fraudulent
groups and the students was unearthed. With this, state government of AP
cancelled the PG entrance exam and with the intervention of High Court a
re-exam was conducted. Because of all these issues the PG admissions
counselling was delayed in both Telangana and AP, and the academic year
was delayed.
Giving no scope for such incidents again, the NTR
Health University has decided to conduct online test for Medical PG
entrance from 2015 and speed up the admissions procedure in both the
states.
