Pharma exports register 7 per cent growth in August

Exports of drugs and pharmaceuticals from the country registered around 7 per cent growth in the month of August, while imports reported an increase of around 1.26 per cent compared to the same month of previous year.
The exports for the month of August stood at around $2.51 billion as against around $2.35 billion reported during the corresponding month of previous fiscal year, according to the ministry of commerce and industry.
The growth in exports during the month is lower compared to the 14% increase reported in July, 2025.
In Rupee terms, the exports growth was 11.56 per cent to Rs. 21,968 crore during August, 2025, as compared to Rs. 19,962.6 crore during the same month of previous year.
Imports of medicinal and pharmaceutical products during August reported a growth of 1.26 per cent to $780.04 million, as against $770.95 million during the same month a year ago.
In Rupee terms, the imports reported growth of 5.64 per cent to Rs. 6,832.52 crore in August, as against Rs. 6,467.95 crore during the same month last year.
In the first five months of the fiscal year 2025-26, the exports grew around 7.26 per cent at $12.76 billion, as compared to $11.89 billion in the same period of previous fiscal year. In Rupee terms, there is a growth of around 10.5 per cent to Rs. 1,09,784 crore, as compared to Rs. 99,371.3 crore in the corresponding period of 2024-25.
Cumulative imports of medicinal and pharma products grew 5.4 per cent during the five months, at around $3.88 billion as compared to $3.68 billion registered a year ago. In Rupee terms, the growth was 8.56 per cent to Rs. 33,351.49 crore as against Rs. 30,722.88 crore reported during the same period last year.
It may be noted that the exports of drugs and pharmaceuticals from the country registered around 5.2 per cent growth in the first three months of the fiscal year, from April to June, 2025, while imports reported a growth of 4.1 per cent, compared to the corresponding quarter of previous year.
