Exports of drugs and pharmaceuticals from the country registered around 5.2 per cent growth in the first three months of the fiscal year, from April to June, 2025, while imports reported a growth of 4.1 per cent, compared to the corresponding quarter of previous year.

The exports during the three months stood at $7.58 billion, as against $7.2 billion in the same period of previous fiscal year. Imports, on the other hand, reported a growth to $2.24 billion during the three months, as compared to $2.15 billion in the same period of previous fiscal year, according to preliminary data from the ministry of commerce and industry.

During the month of June, the exports registered around 6 per cent growth at $2.62 billion as compared to $2.47 billion reported in the same month of last year. Imports stood at $708.60 million as compared to $708.38 million registered in the corresponding month of previous year, with a marginal 0.03 per cent growth.

Exports growth during the first quarter of the current fiscal is lower compared to the 9.3 per cent growth reported in the same period of FY25 (as against the $6.59 billion exports in the same period of FY24).

In Rupee terms, the exports for the three month ended June, 2024 registered a growth of around 7.9 per cent to Rs. 64,837.41 crore as compared to Rs. 60,089.39 crore during the corresponding period of last year. The month of June reported 9.03 per cent growth in exports at Rs. 22,469.51 crore, as compared to Rs. 20,607.99 crore during the same month of previous fiscal year.

Imports in Rupee terms grew 6.75 per cent during the quarter ended June, 2025, at Rs. 19,192.11 crore, as compared to Rs. 17,979.05 crore in the same period a year ago. During the month of June, the imports grew 2.95 per cent to Rs. 6,087.12 crore as against Rs 5,912.93 crore.

It may be noted that the exports registered around 7.4 per cent growth in the month of May, 2025, at around $2.47 billion as against around $2.31 billion reported during the corresponding month of previous fiscal year.

Imports reported an increase of around 3.04 per cent compared to the same month of previous year at $786.12 million, as against $762.91 million imported during the same month a year ago.

As reported earlier, exports has registered a 9.39 per cent growth during the financial year 2024-25. Exports during the 12 months ended March, 2025 was at $30.47 billion, as compared to $27.85 billion reported in the previous year.

The exports reported a 9.6 per cent growth during the financial year 2023-24, at $27.85 billion as compared to $25.39 billion registered for the corresponding 12 months of financial year 2022-23.
