Exports of drugs and pharmaceuticals from the country registered around 14 per cent growth in the month of July, while imports reported an increase of around 13.3 per cent compared to the same month of previous year.

The exports for the month of July stood at around $2.66 billion as against around $2.33 billion reported during the corresponding month of previous fiscal year, according to data from the ministry of commerce and industry.

The growth during the month was over two-fold compared to the 6% increase reported in June, 2025.

In Rupee terms, the exports growth was 17.49% to Rs. 22,925.75 crore during July, 2025, as compared to Rs. 19,512.18 crore during the same month of previous year.

Imports of medicinal and pharmaceutical products during July reported a growth of 13.3 per cent to $850.74 million, as against $750.97 million imports during the same month a year ago.

In Rupee terms, the imports reported growth of 16.7% to Rs. 7,326.09 crore in July, as against Rs. 6,277.74 crore during the same month last year.

In the first five months of the fiscal year 2025-26, the exports grew around 7.4% at $ 10.25 billion, as compared to $9.54 billion in the same period of previous fiscal year. In Rupee terms, there is a growth of 10.3% to Rs. 87,810.41 crore, as compared to Rs. 79,601.57 crore in the corresponding period of 2024-25.

Cumulative imports of medicinal and pharma products grew 6.5% during the two months, at around $3.1 billion as compared to $2.9 billion registered a year ago. In Rupee terms, the growth was 9.3% to Rs. 26,527.75 crore as against Rs. 24,254.92 crore reported during the same period last year.

It may be noted that the exports of drugs and pharmaceuticals from the country registered around 5.2% growth in the first three months of the fiscal year, from April to June, 2025, while imports reported a growth of 4.1%, compared to the corresponding quarter of previous year.

The exports during the three months stood at $7.58 billion, as against $7.2 billion in the same period of previous fiscal year. Imports, on the other hand, reported a growth to $2.24 billion during the three months, as compared to $2.15 billion in the same period of previous fiscal year.

In Rupee terms, the exports for the three month ended June, 2024 registered a growth of around 7.9% to Rs. 64,837.41 crore as compared to Rs. 60,089.39 crore during the corresponding period of last year. The month of June reported 9.03% growth in exports at Rs. 22,469.51 crore, as compared to Rs. 20,607.99 crore during the same month of previous fiscal year.

Imports in Rupee terms grew 6.75% during the quarter ended June, 2025, at Rs. 19,192.11 crore, as compared to Rs. 17,979.05 crore in the same period a year ago. During the month of June, the imports grew 2.95% to Rs. 6,087.12 crore as against Rs. 5,912.93 crore.
