In a major development in Telangana, the drug control authorities have busted the attempt of a pharmaceutical manufacturing company, Jodas Expoim Pvt. Ltd, a company dealing in specialty medicines, to export antibiotics to Russia falsely labelled as their own products, but were manufactured by other companies.

The officials informed Pharmabiz that Jodas Expoim had not obtained a drug licence from the drug regulatory department for manufacturing these particular antibiotics.

On November 26, the drug control authorities conducted a raid at the manufacturing facility of the company and seized huge stocks of antibiotics kept for exporting to Russia. The officials said the company had exported the same antibiotics to Russia two months ago.

According to G Ramdhan, drug controller of Telangana, the drug control department registered a case under Section 18 (c) and Section 17 (B) (c) of the drug act against Jodas Expoim Pvt. Ltd. The company’s manufacturing facility is located in the Biotech Park at Karakapatla in Siddipet District.

Sharing information with Pharmabiz, an officer in the drug control department said, the company has a loan license with a pharma company in Indore in Madhya Pradesh. For exporting of antibiotics Jodas was using the name of the Indore company in its label. The officials conducted raids at Jodas Expoim’s manufacturing facility and in the finished goods warehouse of the company, and seized huge stocks of antibiotics worth Rs. 1.33 crore.

Ramdhan said, on information received by the department, the officials conducted the raid. The seizure is also in connection with the unauthorised packing of antibiotics by Jodas. The case was registered for contravention of provisions of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940.

The seized products include a huge quantity of 38,175 vials of the antibiotic ampicillin+sulbactam 1000 mg + 500 mg injections, which were falsely labelled as manufactured by Jodas Expoim Pvt Ltd and Alpa Laboratories Ltd in Indore. The products were actually manufactured by Indian Genomix Pvt. Ltd based at Cherlapally in Medchal-Malkajgiri District in Telangana. This batch of the drugs was kept for exporting to Russia under false claims that it was manufactured by Jodas Expoim Pvt. Ltd.

Some other antibiotics were manufactured by Zazen Pharma Pvt. Ltd, located at Vasai East in Palghar district in Maharashtra.

The officers detected some stocks of other antibiotics, amoxicillin 1000 mg + clavulanic acid 200 mg, ampicillin + sulbactam 2000 mg + 1000 mg, and meropenem 500 mg, were exported to Russia in October and November 2024 by Jodas Expoim. These antibiotics were also manufactured by other pharmaceutical companies, but exported under the name of Jodas Expoim Pvt. Ltd. The firm was found to have carried out unauthorized packing of antibiotics.
