Eastern Condiments Pvt Ltd, the Kerala-based food processing firm (which
produces and sells spice powders), is planning to expand operations
with its greenfield project in Karnataka, but did not divulge the
investment details. The company has set up regional headquarters in
Bengaluru.
This is the company’s first facility in the state,
and the ninth overall. “Three are in Kerala (located at Adimali, Theni
and Kothamangalam). There is one apiece in Tamil Nadu, Rasayani
(Maharashtra); Ghaziabad (Uttar Pradesh), Guntur (Andhra Pradesh), and
Ras Al Khaimah in the UAE,” said Firoz Meeran, Eastern Condiments’
managing director.
The company registered 36 per cent growth
across geographies and product lines in the second quarter of 2014-15.
This was a reaffirmation of its direct selling and close to consumer
strategies. Meeran stated, “Our new facility would allow our customers
to have access to freshness, purity and local flavours.”
The
portfolio of Eastern Group’s condiments arm comprises over 100
offerings, including spice powders, masala blends, pickles and breakfast
items. Its turnover is estimated to be about Rs 800 crore. It is one of
India’s largest spice exporters by volume. It has bagged the export
award from Spice Board India for the past fifteen years.
The
company exports over 50 per cent of the processed spices to the
Middle-East (namely the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Yemen). It has also
forayed into the US, Canada, the UK, Australia and Singapore. In order
to penetrate the global market, it has appointed a sales head for North
America.
