Curtains rise on Fi Asia at Chiang Mai meet

Curtains rose for Bangkok’s mega food ingredients event Fi Asia 2015 in Chiang Mai with the organisers, UBM Asia (Thailand) Co. Ltd, holding a pre-event press conference at Chiang Mai, Thailand, recently.
Fi or Food ingredients Asia 2015, which is regarded as one of the biggest trade fairs in Asia showing technology, products and innovations about food ingredients, will be held from September 9-11, 2015, at the Bangkok International Trade & Exhibition Centre (BITEC).
Selecting Chiang Mai as the venue for the press conference showcased the northern Thai city’s potential in becoming a noteworthy power in the food business and develop manufacturing standards to compete with international markets.
Speaking on the occasion, Rungphech Chitanuwat, business director, UBM Asia (Thailand), stated, “The company is in preparation for holding Fi Asia 2015 which is a must-attend show on technology, products and innovations about food ingredients in Asia, and is the 19th occasion where Fi Asia will be held in Thailand.”
She felt, “Fi Asia is the exhibition that entrepreneurs of the food & beverage industry should not miss. There will be exhibitors from over 600 companies from Thailand and abroad presenting their products, technologies and innovations about food ingredients. Moreover, academic seminars will be held on topics concerning technology, innovation, trends in food industry development, food manufacturing safety and Halal food manufacturing development from leading Thai and foreign food organisations.”
Kitchen of the World According to her, this year, the show is seen as having good opportunities for food entrepreneurs in Thailand, as Thailand is known as the Kitchen of the World and a top global food exporter.
Sakchai Luangsathikul, director, Regional Investment and Economic Centre, Board of Investment (BiI), said that the food manufacturing business was part of the agricultural value-adding strategy which was to support investment due to the new strategic focus. The categories of food, beverages, food additives and, food ingredients manufacturing or preservation businesses are specified in addition to the use of cutting-edge technology. BOI supports the entreprenuers in receiving the following privileges for running their businesses: Corporate income tax waived for 5 years for 100% of their investment funds, machinery tax waiver, raw materials and essential materials tax waived for production and exports for one year. “Fi Asia is involved in promoting the food business in Chiang Mai and the northern parts of Thailand because the main industry there is agriculture. And the agricultural sector, especially food and food additive industries, have entrepreneurs receiving considerable support. The show will assist food and food additive industries to gain more opportunities to compete in foriegn markets and create important networks in manufacturing technologies and business negotiations in the future.”
