Between November 14 and 16, 2014, Mumbai’s Bombay Convention and
Exhibition Centre would host the ninth essay of the International
FoodTec India, a show dedicated to the food processing and packaging
industries.
Organised by Koelnmesse YA Tradefair Pvt Ltd (the
Indian subsidiary of German trade fair organiser Koelnmesse GmbH), the
event is aimed at creating a platform to discuss and deliberate upon the
latest technological developments taking place in the two sectors.
The
government of India has taken a number of initiatives. These include
reducing the excise duty from 10 per cent to six per cent for the food
processing machinery; setting up various mega food parks, and special
funding of Rs 2,000 crore for the National Bank for Agricultural and
Rural Development (NABARD). These are expected to give a boost to the
business morale in this sector.
Indian food processing industry It
has been projected that the Indian food market would register a high
growth rate, with its share in world food trade poised to increase every
year.
In India, food has become a high-revenue-generating
industry due to its scope for value addition, particularly with the food
processing industry getting recognised as a high-priority area.
Food
processing industry is the fifth-largest industry in terms of
production, consumption, export and expected growth, accounting for
about 32 per cent of the country's total food market.
Over the
next ten years, the total food production in India is likely to double,
with the country’s domestic food market estimated to reach $258 billion
by 2015.
The role of the Indian government has been instrumental in the growth and development of the industry.
The
Indian food industry stood at $135 billion in 2012, and is expected to
grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 10 per cent to about
$200 billion by 2015, according to a report by KPMG.
In April and
May 2014, Indian agricultural and processed food exports stood at
$3,813.63 million, according to data released by the Agricultural and
Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA).
Global platform with 400-plus exhibitors The
