Ayush ministry issues draft document of 20 harmonized monographs in ASU&H systems

The Union Ministry of Ayush has issued a draft document of 20 harmonized monographs in the Ayurveda, Siddha, Unani and Homoeopathy (ASU&H) systems seeking comments from the stakeholders.
The monographs include root of ablution indicum (L) sweet, aconitine chasmanthum staff. ex Holmes, clerodendrum phlomidis L.f., cynodon dactylon (L) Pers., and operculum a turpethum (L) Silva Manso, whole plant of achyranthes aspera L, areva lanata (L) Juss., centella asiatica (L) Urban, and Hygrophila auriculata (Schum.) Heine, and rhizome of acorns calamus L, curculio orchioides Gaertn, curcuma zedoaria (Christmas.) Rose, cyperus rotundas L., and dropper is filing-mas (L.) Schott.
Fruit of barringtonia acutangular (L.) Gaertn, and benincasa hismida (Thunb) Cogn., seed of Buchanan is cochinchinensis (Lour) M.R.Almeida, caesalpini bonduc (L) Roxb., and hygrophila auriculata (Schum.) Heine and exudate of Boswell is serrata roxb. ex Colbert are the other monographs in the draft document.
The Pharmacopoeia Commission for Indian Medicine & Homoeopathy (PCIM & H) has elaborated all details of these plants including microscopic and macroscopic description, characteristics of power form of some of these medicines, identity, purity and strength and properties and action under various systems of medicines along with the therapeutic uses and their doses.
The Commission has called for comments and suggestions from stakeholders by February 9, 2022 and said that no comments will be accepted after due date.
The PCIM & H has been developing monographs under various categories, including single drugs of plant, mineral, metal and animal origin for Ayurveda, Siddha and Homoeopathy (Category I), monographs on standard operational procedures (SOPs) of manufacturing process and quality standards of ASU and H formulations (including stability studies) under Ayurveda, and Siddha (category II) and standard operational procedures (SOPs) of manufacturing process and quality standards of extracts (water & hydro-alcoholic) of ASU&H plants drugs (Category III).
Development of Pharmacopoeias and Formularies as well as acting as Central Drug Testing cum Appellate Laboratory for Indian Systems of Medicine & Homoeopathy are the key fields of activity of PCIM&H.
Two central laboratories namely Pharmacopoeial Laboratory for Indian Medicine (PLIM) and Homoeopathic Pharmacopoeial Laboratory (HPL) both were established as subordinate offices under then ministry of health and family welfare in 1970 and 1975 respectively. Both PLIM and HPL were designated as supporting structures of PCIM&H in due course.
Consequent upon decision of Central Government (dated 3rd June, 2020), the erstwhile autonomous PCIM&H has been re-established as a subordinate office under Ministry of Ayush by merging into it, the two central laboratories namely PLIM and HPL (notified vide gazette dated 6th July, 2020).
