The Chennai-based inter-state cooperative society of ISM practitioners, IMPCOPS, will soon start supplying Ayurveda medicines to the government Ayush hospitals in Karnataka, sources from the society informed.
The Indian Medical Practitioners Cooperative Pharmacy and Stores Ltd (Impcops) has a sales depot in Bangalore city which is readying for the supply of all classical Ayurveda drugs to the Ayush hospitals in Karnataka. “We are waiting for the order from the ISM Department, and medicines have already been stocked in the depot near Majestic”, said Dr. M Kannan, president of the society.
Dr M Kannan and the general manager of the society, Dr T Sankaran from Chennai visited K Leelavathi, director of the ISM department in Karnataka along with Dr S Charulatha, regional director for the Impcops in Bengaluru last week and submitted a memorandum for support. The department has given full support to the Impcops and agreed to procure Ayurveda drugs from their sales depot. Dr. Kannan said the team leaders of Impcops had a business discussion with Dr. Sreedhar, joint secretary of the ISM in charge of Homoeopathy, who suggested tendering procedures for long-term supply. Both the bureaucrats gave a warm welcome to the Impcops office-bearers and agreed to procure medicines manufactured by the society for government supply. According to Dr. Charulatha, there are around 150 Ayush hospitals and 650 dispensaries under the government sector in Karnataka and the Impcops has sufficient stock of medicines to supply to these centres. In addition to this, there are 53 Unani dispensaries and 22 Unani hospitals also functioning under the ayush. Impcops will supply Unani medicines also for government supply before long. She said the drugs are manufactured in the facility of Impcops at Adayar in Chennai and they can be brought to Bangalore every week-end. The Impcops sales out-let is operating at the Alankar Plaza near the Majestic Bus station. Sharing information with Pharmabiz, Dr. Kannan said after the Bangalore meeting, the Impcops leaders visited the union territory of Pondicherry and met the governor, the chief minister and the health minister there, and held discussion for expansion of business to the Union territory areas. The UT government has also agreed to procure Ayurveda and Siddha medicines to the government hospitals and dispensaries there. He said there are only 38 Ayush dispensaries in Pondicherry and most of them are dealing in Siddha system. According to the president of Impcops, the society is planning to establish one production facility in Karnataka, so that the number of sales depots can be increased. Currently, apart from Tamil Nadu, Impcops has a production facility in Andhra Pradesh where five sales depots are functioning. Bengaluru sales depot is the third depot of the Impcops away from Tamil Nadu.
