One-day summit on Ayur-oncology to be held at Government Ayurveda College in Thiruvananthapuram on Aug 11

In a major initiative aimed at integrating traditional Indian medicine into mainstream cancer management, the Government Ayurveda College in Thiruvananthapuram will host a one-day international conference titled “International Convergence in Cooperative Oncology (ICCO) 2026” on August 11.
The summit is jointly organized by the Akhila Kerala Government Ayurveda College Adhyapaka Sanghadana (AKGACAS - TVM Unit), AMA Research Foundation, Unnat Bharat Abhiyan Cell, Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat Cell, Department of Biochemistry at St. Thomas College at Pala, KAIB (Spain), Drangsong Foundation (USA), and Personalized Precision Health Systems Foundation (India). Kerala State Health Minister K. Muraleedharan will attend as the chief guest to inaugurate the event.
The state-level event will gather over 300 delegates, including medical oncologists, surgeons, Ayurveda physicians, pharmacologists, researchers, and health policymakers. According to the organizers, the primary objective of the program is to address treatment-related toxicities, poor quality of life, and nutritional challenges experienced by cancer patients by exploring multimodal therapies, herbal-mineral preparations, and palliative support frameworks. The day-long schedule features ten technical keynote sessions, a multidisciplinary panel discussion, and policy recommendations for public health systems.
Speaking over the telephone from Germany, Dr V S Kiran Lal, event coordinator of ICCO 2026 and board member of the Munich-based ‘Indische Fachgesellschaft für Ayurveda Deutschland’ (IFAD), a Germany based Ayurveda research centre and hospital, told Pharmabiz that the clinical applications of Ayurveda, particularly through the branch of Rasashasthra (herbo-mineral formulations), hold significant therapeutic potential in managing oncological diseases. He said that when applied through authentic diagnostic frameworks and precision protocols, Rasashasthra preparations and Rasayana (immunomodulatory) therapies have demonstrated compelling results in supportive as well as curative cancer care pathways.
Dr. Lal emphasized that traditional systems like Ayurveda are gaining notable traction in European nations, especially in Germany, where the modern healthcare framework is progressively moving toward an integrative model that combines allopathy with traditional medicine. He highlighted that there is immense scope for Indian traditional systems to expand globally as international medical communities seek evidence-informed, patient-centric solutions to complement existing oncology protocols.
Elaborating on the German healthcare landscape, Dr Lal shared that around one hundred Ayurveda clinics and specialized health shops are currently operating across Germany. These centres rely heavily on direct procurement of authentic ayurvedic medicines, active pharmaceutical ingredients, and classical formulations imported from Indian manufacturers to cater to the rising patient demand.
Sharing insights from his professional trajectory, Dr Lal mentioned that he migrated to Germany from Malaysia, where he previously observed Ayurveda growing on a massive scale. He attributed this international momentum to a broader global shift toward integrative healthcare, adding that events like the upcoming Thiruvananthapuram summit will play a critical role in establishing scientific legitimacy and standardizing evidence parameters for Ayur-oncology.
The international conference will feature expert deliberations by leading healthcare personalities, including former Kerala Ayurveda Medical Education Director Dr M R Vasudevan Nampoothiri, WHO Traditional Medicine Research Unit Head Dr Geetha Krishnan and senior clinical specialists from surgical and ayurvedic oncology domains. The summit will conclude with actionable policy guidelines intended to strengthen Ayush-based public health ecosystems and multidisciplinary care models.
