India’s herbal and Ayurveda sector is increasingly prioritizing transparency and clean labelling to build consumer trust and reinforce the integrity of its products. With growing awareness about product safety, authenticity, and sustainability, companies are adopting clearer ingredient disclosures, ethical sourcing practices, and stringent quality standards. This shift not only reassures consumers about the purity of herbal remedies but also strengthens the sector’s commitment to sustainable and responsible practices.
Gaurav Soni, founder & managing director, Botanic Healthcare, said that over the past few years, the world wellness industry has seen a drastic change, as herbal and ayurvedic nutraceuticals have become one of the leading players in the pursuit of preventive health. These natural, plant-based solutions are now no longer niche market products but have found mainstream popularity, thanks to modern scientific research and increased consumer interest in holistic wellness solutions.
Ayurveda has relied on herbs, botanicals, and holistic principles of healing for centuries. Today, the nutraceuticals industry globally is growing rapidly, projected to reach $650.5 billion by 2030, growing from $413.0 billion in 2020 at a CAGR of 3.9%. Demand for immunity-boosting, mental wellness, metabolic health, and other supplements is driving growth, specifically in countries like the US, South Korea, and Germany, where there is a growing preference for natural remedies, he added.
Alternative medicine has become mainstream. The complementarity of age-old wisdom and scientific validation underlies the transition. Today, ayurvedic herbal products like Ashwagandha, Turmeric, and Brahmi have clinical evidence to prove that they are beneficial to mental wellness, immune status and total energy.
The development of ayurvedic nutraceuticals is a blend of both ancient applications and the modern science, which confirms its efficacy. AI advancements in data analysis and plant extraction methodologies have opened the new possibilities for the nutraceutical industries which are now effectively forecast their bioactivity, and create formulations with higher degrees of accuracy. This science enhances the credibility and safety of these products, making them more attractive to health-aware consumers globally, said Soni.
The growth of herbal and ayurvedic nutraceuticals is led by three major trends. First is the preventive health and personalized wellness as consumers are rapidly moving away from reactive to proactive health. Furthermore, the future of wellness is customized, with specific formulations as per individual health.
Second is the clean label and transparency. We are seeing increasingly that consumers are looking for clean-labelled products with minimal, if any, artificial additives and preservatives. This is in alignment with ayurvedic philosophy, which values purity and sustainability, said Soni.
Third is that mental and immune health have become the hot topic in the market. Ayurvedic herbs such as Ashwagandha (stress reduction) and Tulsi (immunity) are becoming more popular as the demand for natural solutions for mental resilience and immune function is increasing day by day.
India, being one of the most biodiverse countries and having rich ayurvedic traditions, has a strong platform to dominate the global herbal nutraceutical sector. To realize this potential, the sector needs to concentrate on innovation, standardization, and clinical research to align itself with international quality and regulatory norms, he said.
The emergence of herbal and ayurvedic nutraceuticals represents a turning point in the global wellness movement. With science support, age-old knowledge, and international standards, these natural remedies are drafting the way to the future of health which is sustainable, effective, and rooted in nature, said Soni.
